Job Description

ob Summary: The IB PYP Homeroom Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, inquiry-based instruction to students in accordance with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) framework. The teacher will serve as a mentor, facilitator, and guide to support students' academic, social, and emotional development within a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Implement the IB PYP curriculum framework, including transdisciplinary themes, key concepts, and learner profile attributes, to design and deliver engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students.
  2. Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for students within the homeroom class, fostering positive relationships and providing individualized support to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  3. Facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, while promoting student agency, independence, and responsibility.
  4. Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons and activities aligned with the IB PYP scope and sequence, incorporating a variety of teaching strategies, resources, and assessment methods to promote student understanding and mastery of learning objectives.
  5. Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that values diversity, equity, and respect, while promoting a culture of inquiry, collaboration, and mutual respect among students.
  6. Collaborate with colleagues, including other homeroom teachers, specialist teachers, and support staff, to integrate subject areas and promote interdisciplinary connections within the IB PYP framework.
  7. Assess student learning through ongoing formative and summative assessment strategies, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and parents on their progress and achievements.
  8. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, including regular updates on student progress, academic goals, and upcoming events through newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, and digital platforms.
  9. Participate in professional development opportunities, team meetings, and collaborative planning sessions to enhance knowledge of the IB PYP curriculum, teaching strategies, and best practices, while contributing to the continuous improvement of the school community.
  10. Uphold the principles and practices of the IB PYP programme, including ethical guidelines, academic integrity, and the promotion of international-mindedness, while fostering a culture of inquiry, reflection, and lifelong learning among students and colleagues.
